Are all chest freezers manual defrost?

A friend once asked me, "Are all chest freezers manual defrost?", the main reason she asked me this question is because she wanted to know if a manual chest freezer type will be able to keep your food longer and fresher and if it's not then she want to get an auto one. Well to be honest with you, I've never seen other types than the manual defrost for chest freezer.

Some advance types of chest freezer come with an auto frost (frost free) feature but it's too expensive for my taste, but most of the chest freezers that people are using is manual defrost, so if you're on a tight budget and don't want to spend thousands of Dollars on chest freezer then I guess let's stick with a manual defrost chest freezer but if you want to buy an upright freezer, then you will find no problem finding an auto defrost model with an affordable price.

Benefits in using manual defrost

There are two main benefits using manual defrost, the first one is a low energy consumption so you will get a lower operating cost but the trick is  to keep the chest freezer defrosted so that the unit will stay in a good condition and also the freezer burn is not too high. This type of chest freezer is also able to keep foods for about 2 months and still maintain the food freshness.

But you should know that if you keep chest freezer to near full then it will not frost up too much so to lower you cost, you need to choose a more suitable size for your needs.
